Pakistani Politicians Targeted by Shoes after Bush incident
We all remember the shoe throwing incident on former US President George Bush after Iraq War. Yesterday, on 11th March, the ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif was also targeted by a shoe in a similar manner.
It’s not a new trend by or new tradition it’s becoming, this form of protest has been used to offend and disrespect people in the front of the public showing shoe or by throwing shoe or Ink on the Public Personality that is not being attracted by the public or to whom they don’t like they express their feelings not the feeling their harsh views his bad character or anything by him that is not being attracted by the people.
Shoeing has become a preferred method of humiliating political leaders during the past few years in Pakistan. We have noticed several occasions where Pakistani politicians had been targeted by shoe few incidents are listed below.
Arbab Ghulam Rahim Yar Khan in 2008
The former Chief Minister of Sindh was hit by a shoe from PTI workers while leaving the Sindh Assembly building on the 7th of April, 2008 when he was leaving the assembly after taking his oath as a newly elected member of the Sindh Assembly.
Asif Ali Zardari in 2010
Former President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari was hit by a 50 year old man Sardar Shamim Khan who through a pair of shoes on Asif Ali Zardari on the 7th of August, 2010 in Birmingham England during a political rally one by one again. Shamim Khan missed the target (Asif Zardari) on both attempts.
He was quickly cowed by the guards as he termed Zardari as a “killer”. He was not given any sort of Punishment. The reason was Pakistan was hit by flood and he was on a trip outside of Pakistan.
Pervez Musharraf in 2011 and 2013
Pervez Musharraf Ex-President and retired army general, had also been a victim of shoe at least two separate places first time on 6th of February, 2011 a shoe thrown at him during his public address held at London.
The gathering was almost Pakistani. The shoe thrower’s idea was to protest against USA’s detention of Pakistani citizens during the time.
On the 29th of March 2013 second time when Pervez Musharraf was making his way out of the Sindh High Court after having his pre-arrest bail extended. He was hit on the nose by a lawyer in Karachi, who was later identified as Tajammul Lodhi, according to him he hated Pervez Musharraf for ruining the democratic status of Pakistan.
Pervaiz Rashid in 2016
Former Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervez Rashid was insulted and hit with shoes at the Karachi Airport in 2016 it was due to protest of execution of Mumtaz Qadri.
Ahsan Iqbal in 2018
Ahsan Iqbal was targeted four time to hit by shoe during 2018 these incidents were occurred in past few weeks first on 24th of February during his address at a worker’s convention in Narrowal a man named as Bilal Haris hit upon a shoe on Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal as he arrived on the stage to deliver his speech over there shoe touched the minister and Bilal Haris was beaten by the attendees before being taken into custody by the police. However, Ahsan Iqbal did not take any legal action against him.
Khawaja Asif in 2018
10th March, Saturday in Sialkot a relatively unique case happen Khawaja Asif, instead of the traditional shoe hit , a man thrown black ink at him and on his face twice during a workers convention address. Party workers caught the person who attacked at him and beat him before he was apprehended by the police. Later on her pardon the ink thrower.
Mian Nawaz Sharif in 2018
This is the most recent incident (on 11th March) involved the former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif by a student belonging to an Islamic seminary this happened in Lahore during Nawaz Sharif visit to Jamia Naeemia shoe was hit upon their chest. Student named as Talha Munawwar, was beaten up by the ex-PM’s supporters and is currently in Services Hospital. Talha hit Nawaz Sharif to protest against the change to Khatam-e-Nabuwat oath for lawmakers in Elections Bill 2017.
Imran Khan in 2018
Soon after shoe hit on Nawaz Sharif his opposite party leader Imran Khan almost became a victim to one as well during a political rally yesterday, a man attempted to hurl a shoe on Imran Khan as he was exiting his vehicle. However, he failed to achieve his target and he slapped Imran Khan whose name was Mirza Ramzan he have been beaten up by PTI supporters before he could aim at Imran Khan. Later on it was revealed that he was sent by PMLN member Rana Sanaullah’s son-in-law to have a revenge against their party.
